Sara Stark is 16 years old and is going to be a sophomore at Pleasant Grove High School. She’s finishing her third year with the local Range View 4-H Club in Wilton, Ca. She was in many 4-H projects this year including Nigerian Goat, Leadership, Breeding sheep, Market Lamb, and teen leader for her Horse project. When asked what her most recent horse activity was, she said, “The Sacramento County 4-H Memorial Horse show was April 27, 2024”. She showed Smurf, her 14.3 hand tall, blue roan draft cross. She is really proud to have won the Bill Winn perpetual trophy in the novice trail class, and many other ribbons in her other western classes. When asked what her favorite thing about showing is, she said, “Everything!”

When asked what the most recent fun thing she did with her horse ‘Smurf’, she said on June 2nd, 2024, she rode as an outrider for the first time in the 75th Annual Highway 50 Wagon Train. She rode the first 9 miles of the weeklong train. She camped overnight with all the other draft horses and wagons, and then rode the section that started from Zephyr Cove Round Hill, Nevada, through Lake Tahoe to Amacker Ranch near the base of Echo Summit. She thought riding in the Wagon Train was really exciting and she can’t wait to see what other adventures she and her horse Smurf find this Summer!
